Virus Removal

Viruses are now one of the most common problems faced by home PC users.

Viruses generally fit into one of the following catagories:

• Spam Drones
  • These viruses hijack the email facilities on your PC and send out spam emails to thousands of people without your knowledge. This allows the owner of the virus to spam other machines using your PC as a sort of cloaking device. This sort of virus will have no visual presence, but you will notice your PC slowing down conciderably.
• Hoax Anti-Virus
  • This is the most common type of virus; the aim of which is to make you believe it is an anti-virus program. This sort of virus will popup on your screen and will appear to be running a virus check on your PC. It will then advise you that you have x amount of infections on your PC and will prompt you to make payment for there removal. If you ever get this sort of message on your PC you must make sure you recognise the program as YOUR anti-virus software. If you do not recognise it do not give your credit card details as it is a hoax.
• Data-mining Viruses
  • These are viruses that will hide on your PC and search for details such as credit card numbers, serial numbers and other sensitive information. This type of virus is a lot less common than the others. Again you will see no visual effects from this virus, but just a general slowing down of your machine.

Although most viruses fall into this small number of catagories their are hundreds of thousands of permutations and, as such we treat virus removal on a case by case basis.

However, in cases where the viruses has caused major damage to your operating system, or where we cannot guarantee complete removal we will advise a full restore of the PC.
